Feasterville, PA, April 23, 2026 – The Joe Hand Boxing Gym proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary on Thursday, April 23, marking three decades of dedication to youth development, community engagement, and excellence in boxing.
Founded in 1996 in Philadelphia, the Joe Hand Boxing Gym was inspired by the late Joe Hand Sr. and his wife, Marge, both Philadelphia Police Officers who saw a need in the city and were committed to giving back. It was Marge who first challenged how they could make a greater impact in the community, sparking the idea. Joe Hand Sr. then brought that vision to life by establishing a boxing gym that would serve as both a training facility and a safe haven for young people. From the start, the gym was built on a unique, two-fold mission: to provide young people with a safe space to learn self-defense and discipline through boxing, while also supporting their academic growth. The facility originally featured a 20-station computer lab, where students could complete schoolwork and receive homework assistance. The lab was also made available to senior citizens, reinforcing the gym’s commitment to serving the broader community. Over the years, the gym operated in multiple locations throughout Philadelphia, expanding its reach and impact across the city.
In 2020, the gym relocated from Philadelphia to a newly built, 6,000-square-foot open facility in Feasterville, expanding its ability to serve members and the surrounding community. While its commitment to giving back has remained unchanged, its approach has evolved to reflect the needs of the community it serves.
Today, the Joe Hand Boxing Gym continues to be more than just a place to train. It stands as a pillar of community support, committed to making fitness accessible while giving back through impactful programs and community outreach. The gym welcomes men and women of all ages and skill levels, offering both individual and group boxing classes in a supportive environment.
A key part of its impact lies in its community programming. Current initiatives include:
- Joe Hand Wellness Center’s Parkinson’s Program, helping those with Parkinson’s regain mobility, confidence, and quality of life through individualized care offered in both group and one-on-one sessions
- Autism Cares Foundation Partnership, featuring several ongoing initiatives:
- Autism Cares Day: A monthly event where participants enjoy an engaging and supportive workout experience at the gym
- Autism Cares Foundation Day Program: Hosted at the gym every three weeks on Wednesdays from 11:30 AM–1:00 PM, where participants utilize the facility for structured fitness programming
- Pathways to Employment: Supporting workforce development by providing dedicated space for training programs four hours each week
- Able Force Education Special Needs Classes, offering structured, inclusive workouts for young adults with special needs
- PAL Program, in partnership with the Bucks County Chiefs of Police, helping local teens develop discipline, confidence, and self-esteem through structured boxing programming while fostering positive relationships with law enforcement
To commemorate this milestone, Joe Hand Boxing Gym will host a community day this summer, inviting members, families, and the surrounding community to come together and celebrate 30 years of impact. The celebration will continue in October with the gym’s annual Beef and Beer event, which helps support its programs and ongoing community outreach.
“For 30 years, this gym has been about more than boxing. It is about giving people opportunity, building confidence, and creating a stronger community,” said Joe Hand Jr. “It has always been a family-driven effort, and we are proud to continue the legacy that started it all. We look forward to building on that impact for years to come.”
